Teri is the Leave No Trace advocate for Minnesota, and we are excited to learn more from her. Our speaker will be followed by several clinics related to outdoor wilderness trails, skills, and information.

All BWAC volunteers and friends are invited to attend this combined annual meeting, volunteer appreciation event, and twenty year anniversary party. Volunteers, organized by other volunteers, have been keeping wilderness trails on the map since 2002 thanks to BWAC's mission of advocacy, education, and trail stewardship.

The Powwow Trail in Minnesota’s BWCA Wilderness offers unique access to a regenerating post-fire boreal forest. The Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (BWAC) is an all-volunteer Minnesota nonprofit, established in 2002, with a mission to preserve existing historic BWCAW trails in the Superior National Forest. BWAC volunteers maintain the Powwow Trail under a signed agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. In 2020 BWAC volunteers contributed 5689 on-trail hours to the Superior National Forest, a value of over $150,000.

This fall, the 10 year anniversary of the Pagami Creek Fire, join us for a presentation on how the BWCA Powwow Trail was saved for the outdoor enthusiasts largely due to tireless work of hundreds of volunteers, many of them from Duluth area. The talk and slide presentation will feature photos of the aftermath of the Pagami Creek Fire that burned down 95% of the 30-mile-long Powwow Trail.

How long has it been since we all got together to see each other and share the stories of our BWAC trips? Much too long! Let us get together for an informal social time outdoors, around a campfire and a grill, and enjoy an evening together.

Fall trips are coming! BWAC is spreading the word to potential trail volunteers.
Join us at Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Store Pint night to hear about the adventure our volunteers lived through and their (hopefully) rewarding time on trail.

Celebrate 2019 Accomplishments Visioning for 2020

Powwow Trail is a miracle story that almost did not happen. The trail burned in the 2011 Pagami Creek Fire that destroyed 148 square miles in the BWCAW and Superior National Forest and cost 22 million dollars to put out. Several years after the fire, maintenance on the Powwow was stopped. Thousands of dead trees fell across the tread. Meantime, newly sprouted jack pines shot skyward and completely obscured the path. The trail was almost lost to future generations.
