This is a BWCA Wilderness trail - there are no navigational signs. The trail is marked with blazes and rock cairns, is minimally maintained, and rated difficult. To hike the full trail you should have a topographical map, compass, and a GPS device. A reserved BWCAW permit from the rec.gov website is required for overnight use May 1 - September 30. The Sioux-Hustler is a rugged 30 mile loop trail with a 6 mile stem that circles a popular canoe route. The trail is muddy, rocky, and has several re-routes around beaver dams. Water is plentiful from the many lakes and rivers along the trail; Little Indian Sioux River, Lower Pauness, Loon, Pageant, Rangeline, Hustler, Emerald, Shohola, Agawato, Heritage, Lynx, Little Shell, and Shell lakes. Many lakeside campsites are also accessible by canoe campers, and are not required to share sites with backpackers. Plan for a 2-3 night trip depending on hiking ability.
