Volunteer Spotlight: Eric

The first time I heard of BWAC was in 2017. Martin Kubick was presenting on the Powwow Trail in the basement of the (now closed) Midwest Mountaineering. My brother-in-law, Scott, and I were already twice-yearly travelers to the Boundary Waters and thought this might be interesting. After our first trip in the spring of 2018—and once we got all the pine sap out from under our fingernails—we were hooked! Making friends quickly and receiving encouragement to take on a leadership role, I was leading full crews by 2019.

My love for the outdoors transformed. I found myself coming to know this place as more than just a source of beauty and respite. A new sense of generational participation and enjoyment cut through any aches and pains the hard work caused. It was like seeing color for the first time.

Beyond that, I think there are life lessons I’ve pulled from this experience that rejuvenate me. The world is complicated; this—this is righteous!

Big thanks, Eric, for your incredible dedication to the Boundary Waters trails! We know your leadership is going to inspire the team and protect these wild spaces. Appreciate all your hard work!
