Trip #7: South Wilder Area

PLEASE READ FULL TRIP DESCRIPTION AND REACH OUT TO CREW LEADERS PRIOR TO SIGNING UP.

See for yourself how the Powwow Trail in BWCA is recovering following a devastating wildfire in 2011. Join us in clearing one of the last sections, near South Wilder Lake, on the northern portion of the trail.

We will schedule a meet-and-greet, gear check, socially-distanced hike when this event is filled.

BEFORE YOU RSVP: This may not be a good trip for beginning backpackers, so please meetup message Melanie or Rick with your phone number and a good time to call. We'll determine if the trip is a good match and discuss steps to get ready for the trail. All volunteers must read and sign the BWAC participant liability form, BWAC health & medical self-disclosure form, BWAC policy for trips under covid-19, and the USFS volunteer agreement group signature form. Visit www.BoundaryWatersTrails.org to review required forms and for a suggested gear list.

Costs: The $25 trip registration fee, payable through Meetup, offsets tool and administrative costs and includes a McKenzie map of the Powwow Trail . Additional costs will be your trip food, a group post trip meal, and shared gas $ for those not driving. Our trail partner, the U.S. Forest Service, provides the wilderness permit for BWAC volunteer crews.

Small Print: All BWAC trips are pet, alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, and firearms free. Participants are required to sign a liability release and photo video waiver, USFS self certification health form, and a confidential BWAC medical form prior to trip. Organizer reserves the right to deny participation to anyone for any or no reason.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO VOLUNTEER WITH THE BOUNDARY WATERS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. Your time and energy will leave a legacy for hikers now and in the future.
